October 24 - 28, 2011


NEWS FOR PARENTS:

RED RIBBON WEEK ~~ October 24th - 28th


MONDAY:  Wear red and get a ribbon
TUESDAY: Wear your favorite school team colors with blue jeans
WEDNESDAY:  Wear camouflage or animal prints
THURSDAY: Wear silly or mismatched socks
FRIDAY:  Costume Parade - Wear age appropriate costume.  See below:

**Costume Parade -- Friday, October 28th -- Begins with K at 8:15.  Please..... NO SCARY COSTUMES! This is a time of fun for children, so we request costume characters that are not frightening :^)


NOTE! ***Written questions on the Reading Selection Test will now count as part of the grade, and students will be required to write complete sentences.  The teacher will provide a "sentence starter," and students will complete the sentence.  



READING

Day One - Monday - Our new story is "The Bremen Town Musicians."

Day Two -- Tuesday -- Read story and practice Spelling words

Day Three - Wednesday -- Read story and practice Spelling words

Day Four  - Thursday - Online Selection Test and written portion. *Remember new information about writing complete sentences!

Day Five - Friday - Spelling and Language Tests

LANGUAGE/SPELLING

This week we are learning about plural nouns that change spelling and the rules we use to help us.  (Example: mouse/mice)


MATH

We will continue identifying odd and even numbers, and will practice "rounding." Students will do 3 minute subtraction fact drills (50 problems), and we will begin 100 fact addition drills.

SOCIAL SCIENCE

Students are studying different types of environments/habitats, and the animals that live there.
