Lesson Plans for September 12-16

Math:  The students will be reviewing addition facts with sums of 10 on Monday.  We will be learning how to find the missing addend of an addition sentence (4+___=6) and will begin to learn doubles facts (ex. 7+7, 5+5).

Reading:  Our story this week is A Walk in the Desert.  We will discuss main idea and details.  We will also talk about text structure (how the author chooses to write the story).  The story genre is expository nonfiction.

Spelling:  We will learn about INFLECTED ENDINGS (-ed and -ing). For words that end in
consonant-vowel-consonant
, the last consonant is doubled before the endings -ed or -ing are added.

For words that end with an e, the e is dropped before adding -ed or -ing.

Language:  We will be learning about the difference between a statement and a question.  We will also discuss the correct punctuation to place at the end of a statement and a question.

Social Science:  We will build a mobile that balances.  We will also build an equal-arm balance that balances. We will observe and describe how the equal-arm balances reacts when objects are placed into the pails.
